Terry, MST-FIT Therapist

Learn why Terry focuses on creating a foundation of trust and respect with the youth and families he serves.

Terry is a Multisystemic Therapy-Family Integrated Transitions (MST-FIT) Therapist, supporting youth under 21 who have mental health and substance use needs, and their families, alongside a comprehensive team of professionals. Part of his care model includes deep, intentional listening that goes beyond surface concerns—his goal is to understand each client’s hopes, struggles, and desire for empowerment.

What is your average day like at The Jewish Board?

Typically, I start by contacting clients to confirm our scheduled sessions for the day and coordinating logistics. Between sessions, I follow up with service providers—such as schools, psychiatrists, and case managers—to ensure that everyone involved is aligned on the youth’s goals and progress.

A large part of my day also involves documentation, including writing progress notes and updating assessments. Sessions themselves vary: I may be supporting a caregiver in learning behavior strategies in the Bronx in the morning, and later in the day, helping a teen in Staten Island process a recent crisis. Every day is different, but the common thread is being fully present with families, adapting to their needs, and working collaboratively to support lasting change.

What is your favorite part about the work you do?

My favorite part of being an MST Therapist is seeing families apply the interventions we’ve worked on and make real progress in their everyday lives. It’s rewarding to witness those moments when a caregiver or youth uses a new skill and begins to believe change is possible.

Why do you think the value “Treat Every Person with Dignity” is so important?

This agency value is essential because many of the families we serve have experienced judgment, trauma, or being dismissed. When we lead with dignity, we create a foundation of trust and respect that allows real healing and progress to happen.

What song or album do you listen to when you need a burst of energy?

While I’m driving to meet with families across the city, I enjoy listening to the Phase Zero podcast. It’s a fun and engaging show that keeps me up to date on all things Marvel, DC, and superhero-related. Perfect for catching up on the latest movie news, fan theories, and interviews with cast and creators.
