Narcisa, Social Worker

Learn how Narcisa empowers individuals and families during critical moments in their lives.

For almost 30 years, Narcisa has been making a difference as a Social Worker at one of our domestic violence shelters. As a bilingual social worker, she engages and supports Spanish-speaking clients during critical moments in their lives. Her resourcefulness empowers individuals and families to transition to a post-shelter setting with confidence, ensuring they have the tools needed to break the cycle of abuse. A true team player, her spirit in the office is warm and welcoming, and she’s always available to lend a helping hand, no matter what the situation.

What is your average day like at The Jewish Board?

My typical day looks like this: I constantly evaluate the safety and well-being of the families in our care. Every week, I meet with our families to educate them on coping mechanisms, self-care techniques, and all facets of domestic violence. When necessary, I conduct safety planning, risk assessments, and crisis interventions. I advocate for our families, refer them to other providers, and connect them with community resources.

What is your favorite part about the work you do?

Seeing the families I work with recover and grow as they work through their experience and begin to regain their sense of empowerment, self-worth, and hope for a better future is my favorite aspect of my job.

Why do you think the value “Engage Individuals and Families as our Partners” is so important?

I think that embracing each other’s values is not only a great way to avoid misunderstandings between people of different backgrounds but also a way to enhance and develop one’s cultural awareness.

What song or album do you listen to when you need a burst of energy?

I can’t pick just one—I listen to all sorts of music when I need a burst of energy!
