Charles, Vocational Program Manager
Learn Charles' favorite part of the job and why engaging individuals and families as our partners is important.
What is your average day like at The Jewish Board?
No day is average. Every day is dynamic and fulfilling as I work closely with people to help them achieve their vocational and wellness goals. I spend my time coordinating programs, supporting staff, and engaging directly with the people we serve and the communities we are a part of.
What is your favorite part about your work?
I love seeing the joy, confidence, and smiles of our participants when they realize their potential and succeed with their individual steps toward recovery! It’s incredibly rewarding to embrace and uplift others.
Why do you think our value of “Engage Individuals and Families as our Partners” is so important?
It ensures we create meaningful connections and support for each individual and family. It fosters trust, collaboration, and empowerment, which are essential for “real” progress.
What song or album do you listen to when you need a burst of energy?
My faith keeps me energized, and I have many artists (like Stevie Wonder) who can get me going, but my true inspiration has always been my mother. My whole life, she always smiled and said hello to everyone she saw on the street. As a child, I once asked her why she smiled at people who didn’t always smile back, and she just turned and smiled at me. Those silent words always taught me that kindness is key; it is better to be kind than right. It not only energized me but also helped to shape who I am.
