Delores, Case Associate

Learn why Delores makes each interaction with the adults in her care meaningful and person-centered.

Delores, a Case Associate in the Bronx, supports adults with chronic mental illness who can live independently in the community but benefit from the availability of ongoing services. By being an attentive and caring listener, she builds trust with individuals, enabling her to better support them as they work toward their goals.

What is your average day like at The Jewish Board?

Every day looks a little different, but the heart of my work stays the same: connecting with clients, ensuring they feel supported, and helping navigate challenges with compassion and structure. Whether it’s conducting home visits or advocating for resources, I aim to make each interaction meaningful and person-centered.

What is your favorite part about the work you do?

My favorite part is seeing clients experience growth and confidence in themselves, especially when they realize how capable they truly are. Those small moments of progress, like a client reaching a milestone or expressing pride in their achievements, are what keep me motivated and grounded.

Why do you think the value “Engage Individuals & Families as our Partners” is so important?

This value is the foundation of our work. True progress happens when clients feel heard, respected, and involved in the process. Partnering with individuals and families empowers them to take ownership of their journey, and it reminds us that our role is to guide, not dictate, the path forward.

What song or album do you listen to when you need a burst of energy?

When I need to refocus or re-energize, I turn on Jazz music – It helps me reset, slow down my thoughts, and find a calm rhythm before stepping back into my day. Jazz reminds me to stay grounded and present, no matter how busy things get. I like to put on a YouTube playlist that includes smooth jazz saxophone, a jazz, soul, and R&B medley, Kenny G, Boney James with October London, Sade, and Phil Perry. 🎷
