Kate Rooney, chair of the board of The Staten Island Foundation, has announced the names of recipients of the 2025-2026 Elizabeth Dubovsky Fellowship in Social Work.[…]
Rooney noted, “The Dubovsky Fellowship helps shed light on an under-recognized field that does essential work to strengthen individuals and the community overall. Social workers touch every facet of our community, from supporting young families to easing the challenges experienced by seniors. The Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life on Staten Island calls us to ensure that the local social work field is strong and ready to serve.”

Clarissa Remache is pursuing her master’s degree in social work at New York University. Her internship is at The Jewish Board, where she is engaged in psychotherapy with children and families.
She is a magna cum laude graduate of Rutgers University with a bachelors of arts degree in criminal justice and is looking to use her time in social work to contribute to the Staten Island community.
Remache emphasized the importance of Staten Island on her development saying, “As a Staten Island resident, my community played a central role in forming who I am today and the Fellowship provides an opportunity to uplift the community that has shaped me.”
She is interested in forensic social work for her career path and plans to work as a mitigation specialist.
She seeks to collaborate with justice-involved individuals and provide the “opportunity to reframe the narrative and highlight a client’s strengths, challenges, traumatic experiences, and various factors that influence a person, rather than labeling them solely as an offender.”
