Committees of the Board

Committees of the Board provide their members, both trustees and non-trustees, with opportunities to provide feedback, offer suggestions, and guide decision-making.

  • Audit And Risk Management

    • Oversees financial reporting and internal audit systems for compliance with financial, legal, and regulatory requirements
    • Officially retains the independent accountants, annually
    • Engages, reviews, and appraises the performance of independent auditors
    • Provides an avenue of communication among independent auditors, management, the Internal Audit department, and the Board of Trustees
  • Budget And Finance

    • Reviews monthly operating reports
    • Reviews and approves annual operating and capital budgets
    • Maintains oversight of the Investment Committee
  • Corporate Compliance

    • Reviews the agency’s ongoing efforts to comply with Medicaid rules regarding services provided and billed
    • Reports Corporate Compliance Program updates to the Board
    • Provides Corporate Compliance training to the Board
    • Reviews areas of Medicaid-related risk
  • Ethics, Law, and Reputation

    • Considers agency-wide challenges, weighing legal, ethical, and reputational implications.
  • Executive

    • Addresses high-impact agency issues
    • Meets during months when the Board does not meet
  • Executive Compensation

    • Approves changes to compensation provided to Senior Executives in accordance with the federal intermediate sanctions regulations
    • Meets annually
  • Governance and Nominating

    • Focuses on trustee recruitment and appointments to Board
    • Provides governance oversight
    • Evaluates the Board’s self-assessment

Committees of the Corporation

Committees of the Corporation provide their members, both trustees and non-trustees, with opportunities to provide feedback, offer suggestions, and guide decision-making.

  • Development

    • Reviews fundraising progress towards goals
    • Reviews and identifies donor prospects and honorees
    • Advises on status of Grants and Foundations
  • Government Relations/Public Policy

    This Committee helps advocate on behalf of the Jewish Board through communications and meetings with elected officials. The committee seeks to build upon work done in partnership with UJA and others in the human services field to promote reforms in funding and policy areas that impact our work.

  • Human Capital and Talent

    This Committee focuses on the agenc’s people and culture, including:

    • diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • HR policies
    • staffing issues
    • training and professional development
    • internship and residency programs
  • Investment

    • Reviews the agency investment portfolio with independent investment advisors
  • Marketing

    • Reviews marketing communications with external constituencies that advance agency awareness
    • Advise on public relations initiatives
  • Real Estate

    • Deliberates real estate planning concerns
    • Reviews construction strategies that include renovations, property management, and site construction operations

Program Committees

Program committees provide their members, both trustees and non-trustees, with a deeper understanding of and connection to The Jewish Board’s services, staff, and clients. Each program committee focuses on a specific division or cross-section of the agency’s work. Committee members gain an in-depth understanding of a segment of services, including regulatory structures and compliance, strategic challenges and opportunities, and funding mechanisms for those services, and will be poised to provide feedback, offer suggestions, and guide decision-making.

  • Adult and Family Residential

    • Supportive housing for adults
    • Domestic violence residences
  • Clinical Care, Innovation, and Quality

    Focuses on how and what kind of care we provide throughout the organization, including evidence-based models, and innovation and service expansion and integrations. The Clinical Care Committee may play a role in things like discussing and understanding performance improvement efforts, and how client choice and voice inform the agency’s work.

Our Young Leaders Committee is part of a 150-year legacy of philanthropic community care, with many of our Trustees first beginning their relationship with philanthropy as members of our Young Leaders Committee. Our Young Leaders continue this tradition today, supporting initiatives throughout our agency that enhance the lives of New Yorkers.
