Intellectual and Developmental Disability Services
Everyone deserves have an opportunity to grow, be part of their community, make lifelong friends, and receive the care that’s right for them.
We support people with autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other intellectual or developmental disabilities in achieving a full and rich life. Guided by the beliefs and practices of Orthodox Judaism, we assist with daily living, nursing care, and therapeutic intervention, at home or in one of our specialized residences.
Our Mishkon program’s team of medical professionals, behavior specialists, social workers, and direct support professionals help participants meet their personal goals, participate in activities, and enjoy being part of the community. Services are tailored to an individual’s level of self-care, learning, mobility, and function and are offered regardless of age, gender, race, or specific religious practices.

Jewish-Centered Residential Living And Care
At Mishkon, we offer Individualized Residential Alternative opportunities for supervised individuals living in homes located throughout Brooklyn, providing personalized support and services as well as 24/7 staffing and clinical oversight.
For individuals who need a greater level of care, Mishkon also provides Intermediate Care Facilities—residential opportunities with increased supervision and support provided by our warm and caring staff, as well as comprehensive 24/7 nursing care.
We are also committed to exploring all of the Jewish practices and traditions. In addition to celebrating the Jewish holidays and our very strong Shabbos program, we have:
- Glatt Kosher certified kitchens
- Shabbos counselors who help to enhance the Shabbos and Yom Tov environment of the residences
- A warm and welcoming community shul located on our beautiful Borough Park campus
- Community outreach and engagement to help promote inclusion within the Jewish community
Day Habilitation Without Walls
We provide day programming for people in the community as well as those living in residences, including:
- Volunteering and enrichment activities for participants throughout Brooklyn
- Recreational trips and activities
- Art, music, and fitness training, including swimming in our pool
- Jewish education and learning, with a focus on davening and parsha
- Customized opportunities for learning and growth
Family Support
Our services extend to helping caregivers and families through:
- Community habilitation; providing staff to work 1:1 with individuals at home or in the community
- Specialized in-home programming, including, music, art, and behavioral therapies as well as fitness and computer instruction
- Home-based respite which gives primary caregivers a much-needed break
- Overnight respite care for Shabbos and Yom Tov
- Camp Scholarship program which provides funds to help defray the cost of summer camp
Who is eligible?
Mishkon serves individuals from 5 years of age through advanced age. Though Mishkon is a Jewish program, people of all faiths are welcome. We provide services regardless of a person’s ability to pay–this includes the underserved, those with little to no income, and those who are uninsured or on Medicaid. We also provide care to active-duty military personnel and veterans. We accept most major insurance plans.
