The Seymour Askin Counseling Center offers individual, group, and family therapy for people ages five and up, psychiatric care (evaluation, assessment, medication management), and medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

Our mental health professionals create a warm, safe, and culturally sensitive environment to help address a wide range of mental health needs, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and social isolation.

Services are available in English, Spanish, and Russian. We also offer information, referrals, recreation, and, most importantly, a supportive community that cares.

Our Approach

At the start of your care plan, our intake coordinators will talk with you about your background, goals, and preferences for therapy.

They’ll use that information to match you with a clinician who will work with you to build a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship.

Our Services

Our experts can help you address your mental health needs:

Our Groups

Group Therapy offers many benefits that extend well beyond mental health. Here are some of the groups that we offer alongside individual care. To participate in a group, individuals must be signed up for services with Jewish Board. Please note that some groups may have a waitlist.

  • Parenting Support Group

    Time

    This Parenting Support group offers parents of our 5- to 17-year-old clients a safe space where they can share the triumphs and disappointments that come with raising children with others who understand. In this group the aim is for parents to feel less alone, find needed support, access relevant resources, and build upon their existing parenting skills to better connect with their children and teens.

  • Adult DBT Informed Skills Group

    Tuesdays, 10:00 am – 11:00 am

    This DBT-informed skills group offers clients ages 18+ the opportunity to learn concrete skills to improve emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal skills while utilizing social support in a group setting.

    This group is ongoing and will cycle through the four DBT modules of Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, and Interpersonal Skills. New clients will be welcome at the start of each month. Clients are encouraged to attend all four DBT Modules (18 weeks) but must commit to attending at least two (approximately eight sessions).

  • Teen DBT Informed Skills Group

    This DBT-informed skills group offers teens 14-17 years of age the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their emotions and learn skills to regulate them so they can respond instead of react to stressors. The group will also focus on helping teens learn to communicate more effectively with parents and others, say “no” when necessary, and reduce high-risk behaviors while utilizing healthier coping strategies. The group will also aim to provide members with a healthy support network where they feel heard and understood. Snacks will be served at the start of the group to help members settle in and unwind from the school day.

  • Seeking Safety Trauma Group

    Seeking Safety is a coping skills group that offers interpersonal, cognitive, and behavioral coping skills for clients (18 years+) who have experienced trauma and may also struggle with addiction. Through a skills-based approach to help clients attain safety from trauma, this group provides a safe, supportive, and present-focused environment to help clients attain safety in their relationships, thinking, behavior, and emotions.

    Seeking Safety is a coping skills group that offers interpersonal, cognitive, and behavioral coping skills for clients (18 years+) who have experienced trauma and may also struggle with addiction. Through a skills-based approach to help clients attain safety from trauma, this group provides a safe, supportive, and present-focused environment to help clients attain safety in their relationships, thinking, behavior, and emotions.

  • Men's Support Group

    This group invites men 18 years and older to join this supportive and confidential space to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Topics include but are not limited to family and other interpersonal relationships, societal expectations, social isolation, mental health, and other challenges. The underlying goal is to foster an open and non-judgmental community to support participants in navigating life’s complexities. The group will involve open discussion, creative expression, and emotional reflection.

  • Aging Triumphantly

    A support group for adults (60+) will focus on creating interpersonal connections while discussing the challenges and triumphs of aging and developing coping skills to manage stressors and improve overall well-being. The group will provide a safe space for members to share memories, worries, frustrations and joys with others in a similar phase of life.

  • Navigating the Stresses of Daily Living: A Women's Support Group

    The group offers a safe and non-judgmental space to share ideas, hopes, and challenges while navigating the stresses of daily living like parenting, household responsibilities, work/life balance, aging parents, and integrating self-care and wellness into a busy schedule.

  • LGBTQIA+ Support Group

    Mondays, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

    This support group provides adults (18+) who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community a safe and supportive place to connect with one another. Topics will include identity exploration, navigating relationships, breaking down cultural messages/norms, and coming out, among others. This group aims to reduce feelings of isolation and increase feelings of togetherness and acceptance.

  • How Our Pasts Impact Our Relationships in the Present: Interpersonal Process Group

    In this group, members will explore how their life experiences inform their relationships today. Members will have the opportunity to build upon their interpersonal skills, notice thought and emotional patterns that inform their relationships, experiment with new ways of relating to themselves and others, and give and receive support in a safe space. DBT skills will be integrated as appropriate to cultivate insight into interpersonal interactions and improve regulation.

    This process group is for individuals who have already completed a group in the CCBHC Group Program, and some knowledge of DBT skills is preferred. If you have a client who would benefit from this group, please first send the case number to the group facilitator before discussing it with your client.

The Seymour Askin Counseling Center provides services to anyone age 5 and up seeking support for their mental health. We assist anyone with mental and behavioral health concerns and welcome adults, children and families of all races, ethnicities, religions, gender expressions, and sexual orientations. We also provide care to active-duty military personnel and veterans.

We help those regardless of a person’s ability to pay or residence– this includes the underserved, those with little to no income, those that are insured as well as those who are uninsured or on Medicaid.
