Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) is a home-based program for children ages 5 to 17 who are believed to have experienced trauma which can lead to behavioral or emotional problems.
We place an emphasis on involving a child's parent and/or caregiver in their recovery plan to help reduce triggers in the environment and teaching coping strategies to the child.
This service is phased based and last up to 12 months, with therapists assessing for the needs of the entire family, and making referrals as necessary.
What is Manhattan Trauma Systems Therapy (TST)?
Our Approach
Trauma is a single event, series of events, or an ongoing situation that threatens a person’s life or well-being, like physical or sexual abuse, natural disasters, or violence. Children who experience trauma sometimes have reactions long after the trauma happens that can lead to emotional and behavioral problems.
Through TST, we help youth gain control over their emotions, which helps them improve their relationships and behavior. We do this by:
- Providing each family with a TST team led by a specially trained therapist who can connect the family with needed services.
- Allowing a family to walk in and ask to start the program, or be referred by an agency.
- Offering therapeutic services in a setting that works best for the youth and their family: in the home, school, neighborhood, and community. Services are also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Teaching families and other people involved with the child's life skills that let them support the youth in their recovery.
We accept children ages 5 to 17 who are believed to have experienced trauma which can lead to behavioral or emotional problems.
