Staten Island Youth ACT is a community-based, mental health program serving children ages 10-21 who reside in Staten Island, and who are imminently at risk of out-of-home placement.

Services are intended to support the child and family within the home, and include case management, counseling, peer advocacy, and psychiatric care.

Our Approach

We help ensure our clients achieve their goals and successfully remain at home, in school, and as part of their community. To accomplish this, we work with families to:

  • Build trust by communicating transparently and clearly about our program, services, and treatment.
  • Encourage them to regain control of their life and care.
  • Engage with other natural supports in community-based services.
  • Eliminate or reduce inpatient admissions and emergencies.
  • Ensure that they have the skills to achieve important milestones in their life.
  • Enhance their ability to have healthy relationships.
  • Promote security and a sense of well-being in their lives.

Our Services

To support youth and their families, we provide the following services as needed:

  • Individual, group, and/or family counseling
  • Case management
  • Assessments
  • Skills development
  • Crisis intervention
  • Medication management
  • Family peer services
  • Vocational/educational services

Youth ACT accepts youth between the ages of 10-21 who have continuous high-service needs that are not being met in more traditional service settings and meet at least two of the following criteria:

  • Inability to care for self
  • Difficulty with family life
  • Difficulty establishing and maintaining social relationships
  • Inability to maintain self-direction/self-control
  • Has a high use of psychiatric emergency or crisis services
  • Has two hospitalizations within one year or one hospitalization of 60 days or more
  • Has a home and/or community environment that is unable to provide the necessary support for developmentally appropriate growth required to address mental health needs.
