How to Support Mental Health Colleagues (and Yourself!) During Times of High Stress

We're all in this together, and there is always help and hope.

As a staff person in a helping profession, your energy reserves can quickly deplete during times of high stress, such as the holiday season. It’s essential to pay attention to your own needs and support one another. Remember, everything doesn’t have to be perfect, and it’s okay to prioritize your own well-being first. We’re all in this together, and there is always help and hope.

Here are a few reminders:

  1. Reach Out for Support: It’s okay to ask for help from a colleague. You can also connect with a supervisor if you are comfortable doing so. Sometimes, just talking to someone who cares can make a big difference.
  2. Check on Your Colleagues: If you notice someone who seems down or withdrawn, reach out. A simple message or check-in can mean more than you know.
  3. Stay Active and Engaged: Participate in activities that bring you joy and keep you connected.
  4. Take Time to Rest: Sleep and rest provide a strong foundation.
  5. Practice Self-Care: Prioritize your mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Take time to rest, eat healthily, and engage in activities that make you feel good. Take time off if you are able and need to.
  6. Seek Professional Help: If things become too overwhelming, professional support is available. Therapists, counselors, and hotlines are there to help.
Remember, Help is Available.
